Parkhouse Mews Invisible Grill: Curved Balcony Work in Chennai

Curved apartment balcony at Parkhouse Mews protected by vertical invisible grill cables fitted from a ceiling track to a ledge track by YPL

Latest completed work: invisible grills on an apartment balcony at Parkhouse Mews, Appaswamy Real Estates Limited, in Chennai. The photos below were taken on site by our team on 8 July 2026.

What we installed

Vertical stainless steel invisible grill cables running from a slim aluminium top track fixed under the balcony ceiling overhang down to a bottom track at the ledge.

The cables follow the full curve of the balcony, so the open face is guarded all the way around instead of only along the flat section.

The system sits above the existing curved glass balustrade and its dark handrail, so the railing, the glass and the building face are left as they were.

Every cable tensioned and checked before handover, at the spacing agreed for that opening on the site visit.

Why a curved balcony needs the cables to follow the curve

A curved balcony has no straight run to fix a single rigid panel to, and a solid barrier would block the view the balcony was built for. Running individual cables from track to track around the curve keeps the protection continuous while the daylight, the air and the city view stay open.

Tension checked on site

The photos show a technician pressing his weight against the finished cables. That is how we check a run before handover: the cables must stay taut, with no sag and no movement at the anchors. It is a test of the workmanship, not a licence to lean or climb on the cables, and it is no substitute for supervision where young children use the balcony.

What the site visit covers

We measure each face of the balcony, check what the top and bottom tracks can be fixed to, agree the cable gap with you, note the cable grade and finish, and hand over a written quote for the exact area.

We charge per square foot of opening, and the rate includes the cable, anchors, track and installation by our own team. There is no separate labour bill. The minimum job size is 50 sq ft. Your exact rate depends on the cable grade, the spacing and the floor height, which is why every quote starts with a free site visit and a tape measure, not a guess over the phone.

Stainless steel grades we use

Grade	Best for	Why
SS 304	Inland flats, windows, low to mid floors	Good rust resistance at a lower price
SS 314	High floors, wide balconies	Higher strength and heat resistance
SS 316 (marine grade)	Sea-facing homes — ECR, OMR, Besant Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur	Molybdenum content resists salt air corrosion

All cables are nylon coated, which protects the steel from dust and salt, keeps them smooth to touch for children and stops the metallic shine that makes ordinary wire stand out. Cable spacing is 4 inches (100 mm) as standard; where young children or small pets use the opening we fit closer 2 inch (50 mm) spacing instead.

Invisible grill vs MS grill vs safety net

Invisible grill	MS / iron grill	Safety net
View and light	Almost fully open	Blocked by bars	Slightly hazy

Child safety	Very high	High	Medium
Society approval	Usually allowed	Often banned on facade	Usually allowed
Life span	10+ years	Depends on painting	3 – 5 years
Emergency escape	Release panel possible	Difficult	Can be cut

Are invisible grills strong enough for children?

Yes. Each tensioned stainless cable holds a load in the region of 400 kg. Our standard 4 inch (100 mm) gap suits older children and adults; where toddlers or small pets use the opening we fit the closer 2 inch (50 mm) spacing, which is what we recommend for that case.

What is the invisible grill price per sq ft in Chennai?

₹110 to ₹350 per sq ft depending on the product and grade — pigeon nets ₹110–180, window grills ₹160–230 and balcony grills ₹220–350. Installation is included and the minimum job is 50 sq ft.

Will an invisible grill rust near the sea?

Not when it is SS 316 marine grade with nylon coating, which is what we recommend for sea-facing homes.

Do invisible grills block the view?

No. The cables are thin and spaced apart, so from a few steps away they almost disappear and light and air pass straight through.

How long does installation take?

Most balconies and windows are finished in one day, usually within 3 to 5 hours.

Can pigeons get through an invisible grill?

Pigeons can pass through standard spacing. If birds are the problem, ask for a pigeon net or a combination of grill and net.

Important quality checks

Confirm the stainless steel grade and cable diameter.
Check cable tension, anchors and frame strength.
Select suitable spacing based on the safety requirements.
Use corrosion-resistant fittings appropriate for the installation environment.
Ask for written warranty terms and installation-service details.

Clean periodically and inspect cables, fixing points and frames. Arrange a professional inspection if you notice loose cables, damaged coating or corrosion; do not adjust cable tension yourself.
